13-15 July, 2011 saw the 33rd Annual conference hosted by Plumpton College in the Sussex Downs.
The theme was Libraries Surviving in an Age of Austerity
which was the subject of our workshop lead by Sim Taylor of Bicton College. We
had a talk by the Honorary Librarian of the Royal Agricultural Society Dr John
Wilson with subsequent invitations to visit the collection at RAS. We also had
sessions on Making Moodle Marvellous, delivered by Denice Penrose and a
workshop exploring Innovative Inductions.
A SKYPE link was established and in use throughout most of
the conference, linking us with Christine Barclay and crew in Fife. Christine
was able to update us on the progress of our sponsored LIS student in Malawi,
and make plans for a subsequent visit to this country for next year.
We were blessed with fine weather, especially for our trip
to the Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst Place where we also explored the
beautiful and extensive grounds maintained by Kew and the National Trust. Delegates
and exhibitors received an informative tour of Plumpton’s ‘vine library’
followed by a tutor lead tasting session in the modern winery and specialist
tasting rooms. There was also a short nature ramble with one of Plumpton
longest serving experts on the natural history of the region.
The general consensus of opinion was that the conference had
been a resounding success and enjoyed by all, not least for the chance to meet
with our colleagues and friends and discuss current issues, problems and
solutions.. |
The 32nd Annual Conference took place from Wednesday 14th - Friday 16th July at Bicton College in Devon
The theme was 'Maximising learner potential in the LRC '.
The conference was held in the beautiful surroundings of the
Devonshire countryside and included visits to Budleigh Salterton and the
nearby Botanic Gardens.
The visit to Budleigh Salterton was a bit of a washout as it saw
those who went getting soaked in a heavy downpour. However, this was
made up for by the spectacular sight of people kite boarding. |
The 31st Annual Conference took place from Wednesday 15th - Friday 17th July at Hadlow College.
Hadlow welcomed 20 delegates to hear Phil Bradley speak
about Web 2.00 developments, followed by a "hands-on" opportunity to
try things for themselves the next day. The sun shone for the visit to Hever Castle and gardens and the Kentish
Conference Dinner rounded the day off beautifully. What fun to see so many Librarians enjoying
the violinist and getting up to dance! The theme was ' Engaging with your users'. |
