Association of Libraries in Land-based Colleges and Universities

About ALLCU

The Association of Libraries in Land based Colleges and Universities (ALLCU) began in 1978 as an informal forum for co-operation and exchange and, being a member of the Federation of UK Agricultural and Biological Information Groups in the British Isles, has achieved formal recognition as one of the official bodies for liaison within the industry.

ALLCU exists to provide an opportunity:

  1. to discuss problems of mutual interest and their solutions
  2. to keep abreast with new developments and techniques in agricultural and horticultural information with special reference to its organisation, dissemination and exploitation for college members
  3. to see the functioning and operation of specialist libraries and research centres
  4. to establish contacts with colleagues for assistance, co-operation and exchange
  5. to act as a focus and forum for liaison with national and regional specialist information groups.

Members of ALLCU meet at the conference, once per year, to discuss current problems and developments in agricultural information and documentation and their implications for academic libraries. The main strength of the group is the support, encouragement and assistance for professional development that individual members have gained from visits to libraries and resource centres, and from contact with their colleagues.

ALLCU is an organisation in liaison with the CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.

Membership costs £10 per year.
